St Pats 1-10  Harps 2-14

The Harps kept up their run in the Senior Football League Division 1 with a win down in Donagh on Friday night.
The first half saw St Pats sprint out of the blocks with the pace of Cameron McBrien seeing him solo through 30 yards before he slotted low and hard past Jack Kelly in the Harps goal.  It was the dream start for St Pats but amazingly, they failed to add to their tally until the 30th minute of the half.  The Harps took command with half backs Moffat, Foss and Decy Cass turning-over a lot of ball, while Eamo, Micky and Tiarnan were rock solid at the back.  Conall Jones hit four points; 3 frees and one from play, that lovely nonchalant swing of the boot that he does so well, "The Conall Trademark".  Gavin McGovern scored a "fizzer" of a point (yes that's an actual description!)  Micky Jones and Mugs both found themselves on the end of lovely flowing passing moves to point each while Wardy hit a free over.  We also had a goal chance, Conall and Gavin combining well but what should have been a palm into the net went wide.  St Pats hit two frees from Pat Cadden on the 30th and 31st minute of the half, leaving the half-time score of St Patricks 1-2 Harps 0-8
From the throw-in, the Harps were on the attack, with Darragh Glynn feeding Aidy who fed Wardy and he pointed.  But there was a pinball moment inside the goalmouth at the clubhouse end, with the ball bobbling off Jack and then Eamo before danger was averted.  Shane pointed for us and then we sat back a bit.  St Pats hit two frees, Cadden and Darragh O'Reilly pointing before two points in a minute from Shane again and Wardy (after a great turnover from Leigh Jones) left us 5 up.  Wardy won a Trademark Wardy free which Conall converted, O'Reilly pointed another free for St Pats before we struck our first goal.  Wardy went on one of them Wardy runs and laid the ball off for substitute Colm Jones to finish smartly to the net.  O'Reilly pointed another free for St Pats again, before a high ball in from Leigh Jones was beautifully fielded by Conall, who then turned and rounded the keeper before rolling it into the back of the net.  Textbook stuff, the kinda thing you'd love to show young full-forwards over and over again.  Donagh finished strongly with a Cadden free from 45 yards, two good scores from play by Jonny O'Reilly, and with time up, Jack Kelly gave away a penalty which Cadden struck off the crossbar and it went high and over the bar.
Full Time score; St Patricks 1-10, Harps 2-14
In fairness to Donagh, they had a few chances in front of goal, just we had some heroic blocks and men generally throwing themselves on the ball (fearless stuff #Eamo).  Both O'Reillys playing at number 11 and 14 were good ball winners, Cameron McBriens pace posed a few headaches while Cadden can do damage when he gets the ball.  But we did a good job defensively, while our half forward line of Leigh, Wardy and Shane worked tirelessly.  Leigh was just a machine.  Gavin should be pleased with his hours work too, causing all sorts of bother inside and winning some frees which were converted.

So we move on.
Next up on Sunday we host Lisnaskea in Harpland, at 1pm.
