HARPS 1-15

This was a well deserved victory for the Harps. They had a growing level of control the longer the game went on, as their mobility gave Teemore a lot of problems. Mobility around the pitch was the key in the second half, after a first half which had required much more by way of physical contesting every possession, getting them to half time at 0-6 apiece.

It looked as if Ryan Maguire was going to beat us on his own, as he bagged five points from play in the first thirty minutes. We managed to keep in touch, with scores from Colm Jones, a super point from Darragh Glynn from play, and Garry McKenna from a 45 metre free. Conor Hoy burrowed through to set up Stephen McGullion, and Barry McGrath had two frees. Teemore’s other point had come from the accurate Liam Martin.

The game was won in the next quarter, as the Harps registered 1-4 to two points in reply from Teemore. Garry McKenna had a fine score in the fifth minute, after Nathan Jones had done exceptionally well to bring the ball out of defence, Colm Jones skipped in from the right for a score, Garry McKenna registered from play again, taking on the ball about fifty yards out and just driving through. Colm Jones had an identical point to the one he had scored earlier before Jonny McGurn grabbed the goal that took the Harps away from their opponents in the thirteenth minute. Niall Jones turned Teemore over in the middle of the field and gave it to Conor Hoy who burrowed through and had a shot blocked only for Jonny to smack home a well struck low finish on the rebound. That put five in it. Lee Jones was proving very influential after that as Teemore visibly didn’t have the legs to stay with him. He was everywhere, and bagged two good points. Liam Martin had two frees for Teemore, and Colm McNally slotted one for them from the left, but the scores kept flowing for the Harps through Aidy McKenna, Conor Hoy and a Garry McKenna free. Jack Kelly had a great save with about ten to go as well. He’s a big obstacle for any forward coming in, and he’s agile too. The Harps had good leadership in key areas from Darragh Glynn, Stephen McGullion, Garry McKenna and Conor Hoy. On top of that, they had a very neat and tidy performance from Nathan Jones at wing back, plus Colm Jones who had three good scores at moments when they were needed. Overall, Teemore were too reliant on Liam Martin and Ryan Maguire in particular for scores.

Well done to the whole junior squad who played in games all year. Congratulations to the backroom team of Paul Ward, Stephen Love, and Niall Gilleece, who were aided a lot by Ruairi Dundas and Emmy Burns in particular. Thank you also to our team sponsors Diamond Cabs.

Well doNE LADS!
