Harps take Care of Shamrocks

Roslea travelled to Harpland this evening in determined mood with a large panel but without their talisman Seamie Quigley and James McMahon.  It was a highly anticipated clash but the Harps were able to prevail and see off the Shamrocks.
The game started tentatively with Gary McKenna opening the scoring before a great score from Brendy Sherlock on the right hand side and a pointed free from Sean Quigley put Roslea ahead.  Further frees were traded between McKenna and Quigley and Roslea had their defensive line well established, putting the Harps on the back foot for a bit before the lads started to up the intensity, led by Little Lee Jones running at Roslea and taking a great point.  The tackles were flying in thick and fast and it was no place for the faint hearted!  But then when you have the likes of Decy Cassidy, you don't need to panic and our play was patient.  The goal came from Colm Jones, despite a bit of pinball and a good save from the Roslea keeper, and then almost straight from the kick out a high lobbed ball from Tiarnan had everyone wondering if it was a goal or a point (definitely a point!)  Gary added another free before Dermot Love blew for half time.
Half time score Harps 1-4 Roslea 0-3

The second half saw some really well worked scores for the Harps, with Colm Jones hitting a great point, before a turnover saw Wardy feed a lovely ball through to Jones and he laid it off for Gary to point.  Roslea responded with two Sean Quigley frees.  Again it was a Wardy to Jones to McKenna combination for a Gary point before Shane McMahon hit a point from play for Roslea.  More points from Wardy, Gary and a beautiful dummy and point from Aidy left us comfortable.  Sean Quigley again with a free saw Roslea probe a right bit but generally the defence held firm and Roslea couldn't break the line.  Colm Jones hit a brace before a textbook Wardy point.  Roslea replied with a Sean Quigley free and a penalty which he coolly slotted into the bottom left hand corner of the net.  And that was it.
Full Time Score Harps 1-13 Roslea 1-8

So we didn't really learn a big pile about Roslea tonight that we didn't already know.  They were ultra defensive at times, Conor Quigley had a lot of influence in his own half back line and they attacked in waves on the counter attack.  They lost Niall Cassidy to a black card and he was a loss.  But ultimately they lacked the Big Unit up front, and their shot selection let them down on a lot of occasions.  With Seamie back that won't happen.
Similarly, Roslea won't have learned a lot about the Harps that they didn't already know.  We were defensively solid, Mugs was decent around the middle, while the McKennas and Wardy were their usual busy selves.  Lee Jones put in a great shift; he grafted, he went forward, he got stuck in.  Oh and there's another Jones worth watching as well...

Next Friday night sees a Starred Game at home to Ederney.
