Derrygonnelly 2-16 v Lisnaskea 2-8
An eight-point victory today over winless Lisnaskea made it a great weekend for Derrygonnelly Harps.
Four wins from four have been the starting point and with games coming up against Kinawley, Roslea and Ederney then further tests are certainly on the horizon.

In our first Senior Football League game in Harpland for the 2018 season, Gary McKenna and Conall Jones gave us a perfect two-point lead inside three minutes, before we went to hit three wides in a row.  Conall Jones was fouled on 12 minutes and it was Paul Ward who supplied our third score before Mark Smyth finally got Lisnaskea registered on the scoreboard.  The opening goal arrived on 16 minutes when Shane McGullion made an outstanding block in the Harps defence and the same player supplied the ball to Aidy McKenna on the 13-metre line before Conall Jones palmed McKenna’s pass into the net, 1-3 to 0-1 on 16 minutes.  Conall Jones, Paul Ward and two fine Leigh Jones points then came inside a spell of just 3 minutes, while at the other end Ryan Clancy pointed from a free, 1-7 to 0-2.  Ryan Jones and Conall Jones pushed us ten points clear but Lisnaskea were finding frees and Clancy again pointed for his side.  Stephen McGullion and Ryan Jones added further scores as Derrygonnelly went in leading at the break, 1-11 to 0-3.

The second half was just 20 seconds old when Ryan Jones pointed, but an Adam McKenna free and a goal from the in-running Tomas Clarke made it 1-12 to 1-4.  Paul Ward was then fouled in which Conall Jones pointed from the free and an Adam McKenna free made it an 8-point game again.  Leigh Jones, a real beauty from Paul Ward and a Ryan Clancy free made it 1-15 to 1-6 as both sides started to make a raft of substitutes.  Ryan Jones played an exquisite ball into the on-rushing Leigh Jones who punched the ball to the net for Derrygonnelly’s second major on 54 minutes, while at the other end Lisnaskea were not finished yet as Ryan Clancy pointed, and Tomas Clarke moved the ball quickly before timing his run to perfection to hit a second goal of the game, 2-15 to 2-7.  Lisnaskea substitute Ryan Moran pointed from 40 yards but it was Derrygonnelly who would have the final score as Stephen McGullion pointed after a fine through ball from Colm Jones.  Jack Kelly did pull off a wonderful save in injury time, but the game was well over at that stage and Derrygonnelly now sit impressively in first place on played 4, won 4.

The Harps will be happy with the showing but a lot of free’s were brought in for mouthing to the referee which will be a worry going down the line.  Ryan Jones was superb around the middle, while the constant running of the likes of Lee Jones, Aidy McKenna and Gavin McGovern is a joy to watch.
