Harps Notes 2nd July 2017

Pride of place in our club notes this week most certainly go to our ladies club, with two great successes to report from last weekend. Our Under 14 girls produced a super effort to defeat Enniskillen Gaels in the League final on a 4-7 to 3-1 scoreline. The game was a very well contested one, and it took a great second half effort to take the result and the title. Well done girls! Thank you very much to our committed coaches Frances Hoy, Martin Duffy and Brian Leonard. Then on Sunday, we had Fermanagh Ladies winning the Ulster Junior Final, with a fantastic player of the match performance by Eimear Smyth, and Keira Elliott also involved on the panel. Congratulations to all involved with this success as well.

The club committee meeting for July takes place this Thursday night at 9pm.

Our Lotto jackpot, now £9100, was not won on Sunday night. The numbers were 8, 11, 23 and 25. £20 each went to Vince Foy, Derrygonnelly, Emmet Miller, Monea and the McGovern Family, Monea. The draw on Monday June 26th saw numbers drawn 2, 4, 20 and 22, with £20 going to James Gormley, Belleek, Dundas Family, Derrygonnelly and The Boyles, Kinawley. We are in Old Pals on Sunday night with Garry, the Kevins and Mary on duty.

Good luck to our Minors, who are out in the championship on Thursday night at 7pm against Lisnaskea at Derrylin. Our full panel of Under 10s are heading to Ballyshannon on Saturday July 15th to play in the Mick Shannon Memorial tournament, fuller details at footy this Sunday.

Our seniors had a good away win against Roslea on Sunday, they are away to Erne Gaels this Sunday at 1pm. Our Junior A team is scheduled to play Kinawley at home and our Junior B team is to be away to Brookboro on Friday evening, although these might be subject to change, so please check our online output for fixture updates.

Our 2017 Couch to 5k Registration took place on Sunday evening, with a very good number of people signing up to make a change, start something really positive, or build on where they have reached. The first session is on Tuesday 10th of July, and we are ultimately heading towards the Churchill ladies’ 10k/5k on September 16th. Good luck everybody! If anyone is looking a baseline, they might consider the Botha to Kenya 5k, which takes place on a new flatter route from Killyhommon Primary School on July 15th at 4pm.

Finally, it was with sadness that all Harps heard of the passing of Devenish GFC president Michael J O’Brien. Sincere condolences to his family, and also to our neighbouring club on his passing.
