Harps Notes 25th June 2018

posted 25 Jun 2018, 01:27 by Derrygonnelly Harps

We had a fine day at Canon Maguire Park on Saturday as our annual Under 10 tournament came to its conclusion with hundreds of kids taking part in our Go Games Blitzes on both pitches, plus our final afterwards. This event is always a massive club effort, from coaches, people to prepare pitches, referees, people to run the tuck shop, pitch co-ordinators, parking stewards, caterers and more. Special mention to Tournament Director Dominic Corrigan for his work over the last two months and on Saturday. In the final, our Under 10s, sponsored by Dermot Leonard Plastering, lost out narrowly after a very good effort against an excellent Kinawley team, who reclaimed the Gerard Cox Memorial Cup. Thanks to our team of Under 10 coaches for their work to develop this group of players. Thank you very much to Smyth Leslie Estate Agents for their generous sponsorship of this entire event. We are already looking forward to next year.

Sadly, Fermanagh were beaten by Donegal in the Ulster final on Sunday, so The Anglo Celt remains out of our grasp for another year. It was great to have made it to the final, and the championship run has given football in the county a very welcome boost. Commiserations to the Harps lads, and indeed the whole panel and management. Thank you very much to the Harps volunteers who worked so hard with the logistics of our ticket allocation, and to those who were out putting up bunting and signs. Hopefully we will need them again soon.

Club football continues, with pride of place last weekend going to our Ladies, who had an excellent win over Irvinestown in the Junior Championship last Friday night. Our Under 14 girls have now played five games in their league, and are undefeated so far, a great effort. We are taking an Under 12 team to the Paul and Orla Bogue Memorial Tournament in Tempo this Saturday, please contact Dom to indicate availability for that. Our Erne Cup teams are away to Erne Gaels and home to Aghadrumsee this Friday night, and our seniors are away to Roslea this Sunday at 1pm. The seniors had a good win away to Devenish on Friday night.

The results from the Lotto draw held on Monday evening will be in next week's notes, but we are in The Cosy Bar this Sunday night, with Michael Glynn, Pat McGurn and Mary Cox on Lotto duty.
