Harps Notes 19th June 2017

posted 19 Jun 2017, 07:42 by Derrygonnelly Harps

The Harps Lotto jackpot, now £8900, was not won on Sunday night. The numbers were 4, 12, 16 & 23. £20 each went to Jackie Doogan, Monea, Barbara Pavitt, Derrygonnelly, and the Jones Grandchildren, Derrygonnelly. We are in Doogies this Sunday night, with John. Louise and Mary on duty.

Saturday was a typically busy June day for the underage section of the club, with three of our teams out in finals. Our Under 10s, sponsored by Dermot Leonard Plastering, had a super performance against a very gallant Kinawley group in the final of the Under 10 tournament to lift the Gerard Cox Memorial Cup. Thank you very much to everyone who was involved with the running of this event from refs, to parking stewards, the catering team, but especially to Dominic Corrigan for his work in co-ordinating the entire tournament and the final day as well, with help from Garry and Niall in particular. Well done to all of the boys and girls in all of our teams who played on the day. Thank you also to Gerald Love Contracts for their support of this event. Our Under 14s and Minors, were not able to take the result in their Division League finals against Newtown and the Gaels. Newtown were just in super form on the day and had a very comprehensive win, while the Gaels were able to pull away from our Minors in the final ten minutes of a well contested final with a couple of well worked goals. Thank you to Gerald Love Contracts and Derrygonnelly Credit Union for their sponsorship of these two teams. Thank you also to the coaches of all three of Saturday’s teams for their commitment.

This weekend sees the arrival at last of the All Ireland Feile Peil na nOg to Derrygonnelly as we host the young footballers of St Brigids from Roscommon and their families and supporters as part of this massive event. St Brigids arrive at 3.30 approximately, and their young players are meeting up with their host families at 4pm before games get underway at 6.30pm. We are hoping for a particularly big welcome at the match between the Harps and St Brigids on Saturday morning at 10am, with quarter finals at Brewster Park in the afternoon. On Saturday evening, we are hosting our friends at the clubrooms with a junior quiz and disco from 8-10pm. Then on Sunday we have the massive task of hosting twelve matches, including four All Ireland finals! We will need every bit of help we can get to get through the weekend, so if you can give us a couple of hours on Friday evening, Saturday morning and at some point on Sunday, in catering, marshalling or tuck shop duty, please get in touch. Thanks to all of our host families for volunteering to take visitors in, and special mention to our Feile Committee for their work to put the programme of events together. We are all looking forward to a brilliant weekend. There will not be any Sunday Footy this weekend.

Our Ladies had a very good win away to Irvinestown on Sunday evening in a very competitive match, and our Under 14 girls have qualified for their League Final on Saturday July 1st. We are having a good year in the Ladies’ section of the club, and hope we can keep it going to some silverware. Keep at it girls!
