Harps Notes 12th June 2018

posted 12 Jun 2017, 04:01 by Derrygonnelly Harps

It is definitely a busy period in the GAA year, with our underage section particularly active at the minute. Our main focus is probably on Saturday, with two of our teams in finals this weekend. Good luck to our Under 14s, who had a good semi final performance to make it through to their championship final against Newtownbutler, possibly on Saturday evening. Please check the club's online output for exact details on venue and time for this fixture. The lads have had a very solid season indeed, and have improved their teamwork a lot. We hope they can put in a good determined performance, and take a cup home. Saturday morning sees the conclusion of our Under 10 tournament, which has been running since early May. We start with Go Games blitzes on both pitches from 10am for all of the teams in the two groups, then we have the final at approximately 1pm, with the Harps playing the top team in the other group. Erne Gaels, Enniskillen Gaels and Kinawley are all in contention at time of writing. Good luck to all of our young players in this. We will need quite a bit of help with preparing the pitches on Friday evening, plus refereeing, parking and more on the day, so if you can be around, it would be much appreciated. Give Dominic Corrigan a shout. We are very grateful to Gerald Love Contracts for their sponsorship of this event and of our Under 14 team as well.

Our club's preparations for hosting the All Ireland Feile competition on the weekend of June 23rd to 25th are ongoing. This is going to be one of the biggest operations we have ever taken on, especially on the Sunday with the possibility of eight matches, including two All Ireland finals at Canon Maguire Park. We'll need all hands on deck! A sizeable number of our families are also hosting young footballers from St Brigid's Roscommon that weekend. It is a fine occasion, for sure, and we hope it will prove enjoyable. There is a very important meeting on the Feile for the parents of all Under 14 players in the clubrooms on Wednesday night after training.

Our adult teams are in action this weekend, with our seniors in Teemore on Friday evening at 8pm. Our Junior A team is at home to Lisnaskea on Sunday at 1pm, while the Junior Bs are in Aghadrumsee at the same time.

Thank you very much to all club members who were involved in the Fleadh parade on Sunday afternoon. Special mention to Dermot and Charlie Magee, plus Martin Brennan, for the use of their machinery. Congratulations to the Botha CCE group and Fermanagh Fleadh organisers on a great weekend.

The Lotto draw was held on Monday night June 12th, and details will be in next week's notes.
