Harps News 10th December 2018

The Harps Lotto jackpot, now £10000, was not won on Sunday night. The numbers drawn were 5, 11, 13 and 24. £20 each went to John Lee, Derrylin, Mark Burns, c/o Fiddlestone, and Carol & Gerry c/o Doogies. We are in The Cosy Bar this Sunday night, with Aidy, Brendy and Mary on duty. This Sunday night will see our annual Christmas draw. There will be six £50 prizes plus two £50 promoters prizes drawn, regardless of whether the jackpot is won or not. Promoters are asked to initial their envelopes to make it a bit handier for us to figure out winners on the night.

Congratulations to our Scorn a nOg entrants last weekend, who competed in the Ulster semi final in Stradone, County Cavan. Our instrumental group of Kealan McShea, Eoin Magee, plus Naoise, Oisin and Odhran Harbinson have now qualified for the Ulster final on January 11th in Silverbridge.

Our Under 21s have qualified for the county final, presumably this weekend,  following a decent win over Young Maguires on Sunday. Full details on the fixture will be on club outlets as soon as available.

The Health and Wellbeing Committee has arranged a second free taster "Eazy on the Kneezy" session, on Thursday 13 December from 11-11.45am in the clubrooms. These sessions will consist of gentle exercises to maintain joint stability, strengthen core, improve balance and to generally improve the physical and mental wellbeing of participants.  The sessions are suitable for men and women and will be mixture of light circuits and armchair circuits for those with limited mobility. We would encourage everyone to come along and give it a try with our friendly and supportive instructor Jackie Cassidy and there'll even be time for a cuppa and a chat afterwards!

We had a really great club event on Sunday evening in the clubrooms, as our prizegiving night was held, honouring the achievements and efforts of all of our players and teams at underage level in 2018. Thank you very much to our guest speakers Chrissie McKaigue of Derry and Ryan Jones from our own ranks. The key points made by the two fellas were solid and logical: be ambitious and have goals, don’t expect the outcomes without the effort, and enjoy the challenges. Our team managers introduced our various girls’ and boys’ teams very neatly, in an event which ran very smoothly, a credit to the organisers and Youth Chairperson Eoghan Cassidy in particular, who played a blinder as MC on the night.

Fortunately, there are more events to look forward to, with our Harps Celebration Dinner Dance on January 12th, honouring our successes in the Ladies Intermediate Championship and our Men’s Senior Championship. Music is by Cufflinks, and tickets are available from Sean Flanagan, Ger Greene, Brendan Rasdale, Francis Rasdale, Patricia Brennan, Louise Dundas, Peter Jones, Donal Corrigan, Gavin Duffy and Nicola Cassidy. The perfect Christmas gift, surely!!
