Harps 4-14 Kinawley 3-6

Harps were comfortable enough here. They always looked like scoring. Once or twice, for a few minutes in each half, they were a wee bit under pressure, but not in danger.

Half time score was 2-9 to 2-4. Wardy and Stephen McGullion goaled for the Harps in the first half, while Kinawley replied though Sean McManus and Donal Owens. As they say on Sky Sports, “The defenders will be disappointed with themselves there, Geoff.” There was a reasonable flow of points from Deccy Cass (2), Wardy (play and frees), and  Leigh. For Kinawley, Shea Keenan’s good runs were rewarded with two points and a free won and converted. His good play saw Arch turn to Mickey Jones for the second half in fairness. The second half was similarly generally one in which the Harps were in good shape, but Kinawley rattled them for a wee while around the 15 minute mark. Sean Doc timed his run well to palm home a goal, followed immediately by a beast of a point from Sean Leonard. Kinawley had a sniff, but 2-1 in the following two minutes put the game beyond them through Stephen McGullion and Leigh Jones plus a Wardy point. Thereafter, driven by a lively effort from sub Aaron Burke in particular, the Harps tagged on a few more points for the win.

Deccy Cass had a really good first half, he stood out, but maybe it was a game in which the Harps worked as a unit, a lot of guys doing well in spells. The second quarter saw a bit of sloppiness, which was addressed effectively.

Kinawley were best served by Liam Owens, who was always positive and committed. While Shea Keenan was a threat in the first half in particular.
